The Cartilage Restoration Center of Indiana was developed by the Orthopaedic Research Foundation in conjunction with orthopaedic surgeons of Orthopaedics Indianapolis. The Center's goal is to offer a full range of contemporary treatment options for knee cartilage problems. These options include the latest minimally invasive procedures adapted for arthroscopic surgery. Some techniques allow for local anesthetics and outpatient treatment while more advanced problems may require no more than an overnight stay or brief hospitalization.
Dr. Farr received his undergraduate degree in biological engineering from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1975 where he also was awarded an honorary doctorate of Biological Engineering. He earned his medical degree from Indiana University in 1979. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Indiana University Medical Center in 1986.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Farr has continued to focus his practice in sports medicine and knee restoration. His numerous appointments and affiliations include a clinical associate professorship in orthopaedic surgery at Indiana University Medical Center and a board position with the Cartilage Research Foundation.
As a leader in Indiana cartilage restoration advances, Dr. Farr participates in several ongoing articular and meniscal cartilage clinical trials. He also designed and received a patent for a Meniscal Allograft Transplant System. For patients with knee changes too far advanced for restoration, Dr. Farr often employs partial knee replacement technology utilizing computer assisted navigation. This technique is often combined with minimally invasive bone preserving techniques.
Dr. Farr is actively affiliated with St. Francis Hospital Center, Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital and has courtesy affiliations with other Indianapolis area hospitals. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, the International Cartilage Repair Society and numerous other professional organizations.
